They’re not a couple.” Dej responded to the hate by tweeting “They’ll be so quick to say you’ve changed when it’s really them who aren’t growing. No need to pretend.”
1. Dej lost her dad when she was young.
Dej was born in Detroit. Her dad was tragically killed when she was just four years old. “Me and my two brothers moved [and] my grandma stepped up because my mom sort of had a breakdown,” she told Bullet Media. Thankfully, she moved back in with her mother years later. But the loss of her father taught her to “not do things that were bad.”
2. She takes her name from her favorite kind of footwear.
Dej’s real name is Deja Trimble, so “Dej” (sometimes written DeJ) is a nickname. It’s pronounced similar to “beige,” according to MTV. As for Loaf? It’s a reference to her “footwear preference.”
3. She blew up thanks to Drizzy.
In 2013, Dej released her first mixtape, Just Do It., and she started getting some buzz. When she released “Try Me” as a single in July 2014, Drake quoted lyrics from the song in an Instagram post. This “Drizzy-boost” got her a contract with Columbia Records and she was even featured on Eminem’s Shady XV compilation.
4. Dej has denied being gay.
Before this fight with Aye, Dej has said she wasn’t gay. In 2014, Dej tweeted that she’s “not a d*ke. Hoes just love me,” according to VladTV. During the interview, Dej denied being a lesbian because she dressed like a tomboy. “I just like to dress comfortable,” Dej said. Plus, when Dej was asked about her sexuality at the 2015 BET Awards, Dej said, “it is what it is,” reports Design & Trend.
5. Dej may not be dating anyone – including Lil Durk!
Days before this blow-up with Aye, Dej said she was single! At the BET Hip Hop Awards on Oct. 9, Dej told HipHollywood, “I’m not dating anyone right now, but shout out to the guys and the girls that make me their ‘Women Crush Wednesday’ and all that crazy stuff they be doing.” As for her romance, Dej said, “I’m single, though. I’m chilling.”
